From elsewhere in The Post: A softball team at Blake High School in Silver Spring gives special-needs students camaraderie and a place to make friends. Blake special-education students are in a select group: They are part of the 2 percent of special-needs students in Montgomery County schools who do not attend classes with general education kids.

“They are the outliers in an increasingly integrated education system, which makes it all the more important for teachers such as [Heather] Cory to ensure that Kumail [Abbas] and his classmates feel empowered as individuals without feeling isolated,” writes reporter Robert Samuels.
