Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev is perhaps best known for his kid-friendly work “Peter and the Wolf,” which aimed to introduce children to different instruments and their sounds.

In a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Victoria Gau conducts the National Philharmonic, pianist Brian Ganz, mezzo-soprano Magdalena Wor and the National Philharmonic Chorale in Prokofiev’s other works including “Alexander Nevsky Suite,” “Lieutenant Kije Suite” and Piano Concerto No. 3. The concert will be held at the Music Center at Strathmore, 5301 N. Tuckerman Lane, Bethesda. Tickets are $37-$84 for adults; children ages 7 to 17 are admitted free.
