At 8:30 a.m. — The Commerce Department releases data on housing starts. Housing starts are forecast to have risen 9.6 percent in March, though that follows an even steeper decline in February. The number of building permits taken out is likely to have risen more modestly in March, with a 1.1 percent gain expected.

At 10 a.m. — Regional unemployment numbers are released.

At 10:15 a.m. — President Obama holds a town hall in Annandale to discuss his vision for reducing the nation’s debt and bringing down the deficit.
