At 10 a.m. — The Institute for Supply Management releases its index of manufacturing activity for April. Forecasters expect the index to show a dip. After showing explosive growth in the sector for the past three months, the index is expected to fall to a more moderate pace of growth, 59.5, down from 61.2 (numbers above 50 signal expansion).

At 10 a.m. — The Commerce Department releases data on construction spending for March.
