Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries cheapen marriage

We interrupt Cain-mania to bring you this important bulletin. According to TMZ, Kim Kardashian and her husband of 72 days, Kris Humphries, will file for divorce. This shocking news comes a few days after Gov. Rick Perry (R-Tex.) told folks in New Hampshire that he supported efforts to repeal that state’s marriage-equality law. “I applaud those legislators in New Hampshire who are working to defend marriage as an institution between one man and one woman,” Perry said at an event sponsored by Cornerstone Action in Manchester on Friday. He also said he supported the “sanctity of traditional marriage.”

The Kardashian-Humphries split makes a mockery of Perry’s statement and of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. Blocking gay men and lesbians who want to join the revered institution of marriage so that the Kardashians of the world can cheapen it further is shortsighted, unjust and wrong.
