Todd Akin, expert on who hates God

Missouri Republican Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin is a renowned runner of the mouth, especially on matters he knows nothing about.

Well before he made a big splash this week with his ignorant comments about rape and abortion, Akin put his stupidity in action in the field of theology.

In a radio interview last year with the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins, Akin’s views were sought on the decision by NBC to delete the words “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance during the telecast of the U.S. Open golf tournament.

Opined Akin: “I think NBC has a long record of being very liberal, and at the heart of liberalism, really, is a hatred of God and a belief that government should replace God. So, they’ve had a long history of not being at all favorable toward many of the things that have been such a blessing to our country.”

So Akin doesn’t just have a hand up with knowledge of a woman’s reproductive health, he’s right there with God judging the living.

What next from that Brainiac?

Colbert I. “Colby” King writes a column -- sometimes about D.C., sometimes about politics -- on that runs on Saturdays. In 2003, he won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. King joined the Post’s editorial board in 1990 and served as deputy editorial page editor from 2000 to 2007.
