Before projecting “RESIST” on the Trump International Hotel, guerrilla artist Robin Bell grew up mowing the lawn of a cemetery his family managed near Washington. He could have gone into the family business, but he says seeing the graves of younger people who presumably died from drugs made him angry that society seemed to be rigged against the people who need help most.

He turned his anger into art protesting government policies. Bell is now best known for his rogue light projections onto Trump’s hotel, where he has streamed images reading “shithole” and “resist” as “mile markers” of a crumbling democracy, to remind people: This is not normal.

Watch his story above.
