Chris Jones is a staff writer for Esquire. His story last year about Roger Ebert was widely regarded among journalists -- including me -- as a model of how to write a profile with depth, insight, and sensitivity.

Jones also has a blog about writing, called “Son of Bold Venture.” It discusses long-form journalism extremely analytically. It is aimed mostly at writers and aspiring writers.

Jones’ blog entry from April 5 was highly controversial, for reasons that will be quickly apparent.

For the purposes of this poll, it is enough to just read the blog item, but if you have time and interest, also read Jones’s followup blog post here.
