Authorities say they’ve recovered human remains they believe to be those of a New York college student from Maryland who’s been missing for more than a month.
State police tell local media outlets that two hikers found the remains Sunday evening in a wooded area in the northern Steuben County town of Cohocton, 45 miles south of Rochester.
Troopers believe the remains are those of 21-year-old George Delany of Frederick, Md. The junior at Rochester Institute of Technology was reported missing after he left his suburban Rochester apartment March 12 and never returned.
His vehicle was found March 13 in the neighboring town of Wayland.
An autopsy is being conducted to positively identify the remains.
Police are holding a news conference at 11 a.m. Monday to discuss the case.
