Man critically injured in fire near Annapolis

A man who appeared to be in his mid-70s was critically injured Monday night in a house fire near Annapolis, authorities said.

The man was rescued from a blaze in a single-family house in the 1300 block of Generals Highway in the Crownsville area of Anne Arundel County, said Capt. Michael Pfaltzgraff, a county fire department spokesman.

The cause of the two-alarm blaze, which was reported just before 6:30 p.m., was not immediately known.

Pfaltzgraff said the man was found in a basement area of the house and taken to a hospital. .In addition to county fire fighters, Pfaltzgraff said, personnel from Annapolis and from the U.S. Naval Academy went to the scene, which is about eight miles northwest of Annapolis.
