A woman on bicycle was hit by a car and seriously injured Tuesday in Northwest Washington, authorities said.

The accident happened near 15th and Q streets about 6:30 p.m., said Officer Hugh Carew, a D.C. police spokesman. The woman was taken to a hospital in serious condition, but her injuries were not believed to be life threatening, said Pete Piringer, a D.C. fire and EMS department spokesman.
