Hundreds of thousands are without power, dozens of Washington area schools are closed, debris continues to litter streets and yards, and now, there’s not enough blood.

According to the Red Cross, 60 blood drives along the East Coast were canceled due to Hurricane Irene and hundreds of people were unable to get to drives because of weather-related issues.

In all, there’s an estimated shortfall of 1,500 units of blood.
