A man was found fatally shot Friday night in Southeast Washington, in what appeared to be the District’s fifth homicide since Wednesday.

The man was found shortly after 8 p.m. in a car in the 2700 block of Stanton Road SE, said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman.

He said police were sent there in response to a report about a shooting. The man was taken to a hospital where he died, Carew said.

Three of the fatal shootings occurred late Wednesday and early Thursday. The fourth slaying was that of a high school basketball player who was killed Thursday night.

It was not clear whether any connection existed between or among the killings.
