Flooding forces school closures and other delays, cancellations

As rain and flooding recedes in the Washington area, area school systems and government offices are beginning to reopen or announce limited closures. These include:

Schools and Colleges:

All Charles County public schools are closed Friday; code 2 for staff. All Saturday activities also have been cancelled.

All Fairfax County public schools are Friday. Offices are open; unscheduled leave policy is in effect. Grass athletic fields will be closed Saturday; all other fields and schools are open.

All Prince William public schools are closed Friday. All activities will resume a normal schedule on Saturday.

All College of Southern Maryland campuses are closed Friday.

Government offices:

Federal agencies are open, but employees can take unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework.

Alexandria government offices are open, but employees can take unscheduled leave.

In Prince George’s County, the administration building and the County Courthouse in Upper Marlboro will be closed Friday, along with the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters.  

Prince George’s County’s Board of Education meetings, scheduled for 1, 3 and 6 p.m. Thursday, were canceled. They will be held on Monday, Sept. 12.
