A contracting crew struck a gas line near the parking area of Montgomery Mall Wednesday causing a build up of gas outdoors but none inside and no evacuations before the line was shut off, a Montgomery County fire and rescue services official said.

Capt. Oscar Garcia said hazardous material teams temporarily halted movement into and out of the mall’s food court and area near movie theaters but did not evacuate shoppers or workers.

Crews responding to an odor of gas found elevated levels outdoors, Garcia said and tracked it to a leaking line hit by a construction crew. The line was closed down shortly after 1:30 p.m. Movement in the vicinity of the food court area was expected to resume shortly as gas concentrations dissipate, Garcia said.

There were no injuries reported.
