Heavy rainfall causes overflow at Fort Washington sewer station

Heavy rainfall this week caused a sewer overflow at Broad Creek pumping station in Fort Washington on Wednesday, and the problem continues, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission officials said

The overflow that dumped diluted wastewater into Broad Creek began about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, even though all pumps at the station are operating properly, officials said in a statement. Officials did not have an estimate for how many gallons have been flowing into into the creek.

Authorities posted warning signs and advised that people should avoid the overflow area.
