Prince George's Schools Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. was named Tuesday to the board of directors of the National Parent-Teacher Association.

In his role, which lasts until 2013, Hite will help the group develop research looking into successful techniques for more engagement in the schools.

Betsy Landers, the group's president, said in a statement that Hite was at the “top of the list” to be on their board because “he embodies what we look for and hope for as parents, he understands the need of families and knows the importance of fostering the partnership between families and school administrations.”
