Several automobiles were found defaced Sunday in the Cleveland Park neighborhood of Northwest Washington with “hate-biased language” written on them, the D.C. police said.

Police said the vehicles were found in the 3200 block of Cathedral Avenue NW after damage to property was reported.

A resident of the block said a homophobic epithet was scrawled on cars with a marking pen. It had apparently been done late Saturday or early Sunday, and at least six cars were involved, he said.

The block is a short distance to the east of the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral. Police said the incident is under investigation.
