Washington Hospital Center and the union representing 1,700 nurses have reached a tentative agreement on a contract, union and hospital officials announced Wednesday.

The nurses at the region’s largest hospital have been without a contract for about a year, and walked off the job March 4 in a one-day strike after negotiations broke down.

Officials said they reached an agreement Monday, but would not discuss details until the nurses vote Friday and Saturday to ratify the contract.

The union has cancelled an informational picket that was scheduled for Friday.
