Prince George’s County police identified Thursday a 43-year-old man shot and killed by officers earlier this week after he brandished a gun in the Capitol Heights area.
Police said James Henry Peoples, 43, of the 6300 block of Valley Park Road, was fatally shot by several officers who responded to that block after they received a call about a person threatening suicide. Officers saw Peoples leave his home armed with a handgun, and he refused police commands to put down the gun, officials said.
Officials identified the involved officers as Cpl. Dwayne Smith, a seven-year veteran, Officer First Class Wesley Hamilton, a three-year veteran, Officer Sean Miller, a three-year veteran Officer Jennifer Pastorek and two-year veteran Officer Timothy Hancock. The officers have been placed on administrative leave while officials investigate.
