A two-alarm fire tore through the roof of the Marlo furniture store on Rockville Pike, forcing authorities to shut down traffic in that block of the busy road at the close of the Wednesday afternoon commute, authorities said.
Officials closed both northbound and southbound lanes in the 700 block of Rockville Pike about 6:10 p.m., officials said. Authorities detoured traffic at Wooton Parkway and near Route 28, officials said.
Firefighters were called to the rear of the furniture building to battle a fire on the second floor and the roof of the building, said Asst. Chief Scott Graham, a county fire department spokesman.
The fire was knocked down by about 7:10 p.m. Rockville Pike was reopened just after 8.m.
