Maryland Public Service Commission fines Pepco $1 million

The Maryland Public Service Commission has fined Pepco $1 million for failing to maintain its system properly, leading to long and frequent outages, according to a news release issued by the agency.

The commission specifically blames Pepco’s tree trimming policies and practices as ineffective and said those policies helped contribute to the high number of outages.

A 2010 analysis by The Washington Post found that Pepco ranks near the bottom of utility companies nationwide in keeping the power on and bringing it back once it goes out.
