Foundation chief executive Harry E. Johnson Sr. said organizers were closely monitoring Hurricane Irene, and would have more information Friday.

In a news briefing with D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray and Marc Morial, chief executive of the National Urban League, Johnson said it was too early to make any changes in the plans for Sunday. Any decision will be made by the foundation and the National Park Service. Gray said the city wants to sit down and talk about various options.

“People have traveled great distances” Gray said, and don’t want to leave without participating in some way in the King dedication.
