The Departments of Motor Vehicles in Virginia and the District have announced closures and limited services this weekend.

In observance of Columbus Day, all DMV locations in the District will be closed Saturday, Oct. 8 and Monday, Oct. 10.

Virginia’s DMV locations will be closed for Columbus Day on Monday only.

But residents looking to obtain or renew their driver’s licenses Saturday are out of luck, as system maintenance will make the service unavailable.

DMV officials said that the agency won’t be able to verify Social Security numbers on Saturday because the U.S. Social Security Administration is planning annual maintenance at its National Computer Center.

After the close of business Friday, Virginians will have to wait until Tuesday to obtain licenses.

Customers can visit a DMV customer service center on Saturday and obtain a letter that will entitle them to expedited service starting Tuesday, officials said.
