Norton seeks more Inaugural tickets for DC

Eleanor Holmes Norton, the District’s non-voting delegate to Congress, is trying to score more tickets for District residents to the inauguration of President Obama.

Norton, a Democrat, said Tuesday that she has written to House and Senate colleagues asking them for their unused tickets.

She said she has received far more than 2,500 requests for tickets to the Jan. 21, ceremony, while fewer than 200 tickets are allocated to each member of Congress.

Norton said she plans to hold a lottery for the tickets her office receives. District residents may enter the lottery through Norton’s website, Norton.house.gov.

Precedent exists for the donations of unused tickets. Members of Congress whose constituents did not plan to attend the 2009 ceremonies ”were very generous” in providing unneeded tickeets, Norton said.
