Pedestrian hit by VRE train

A man was killed Monday night when he was struck by a VRE commuter train south of Woodbridge in Prince William County, authorities said.

A VRE spokesman said the man was struck about 7 or 7:30 p.m. near Cherry Hill Road. The six-car southbound train was carrying about 250 passengers. It runs between Union Station and Fredericksburg.

The train that struck the man was halted for at least an hour. The following train stopped at Woodbridge and its passengers boarded buses to continue their trips, said VRE spokesman Mark Roeber.
