Plane crash in Va. kills two

A Stafford County man and his teenage son were killed Saturday in the crash of a single engine airplane, the Virginia state police said.

John B. Morton, Jr., 48, and his son, Kyle J. Morton, 13, died in the crash near Shannon Airport in Spotsylvania County, police said.

They said John Morton had been working on the Cessna 150M and conducting takeoffs and landings at the airport.

During one of the operations, the plane fell from the sky and crashed on Carrie Court about 5:15 p.m. according to the police. The two occupants of the plane died at the scene.

The state police are investigating along with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Administration, police said.

The site is two or three miles south of Fredericksburg, and just east of the airport property.
