Blood vehicle burns in Bethesda

A Red Cross vehicle that apparently carried blood caught fire Sunday night in Bethesda.

The Bloodmobile caught fire about 7 p.m. near River Road and Wilson Lane, authorities said.

No injuries were reported.

Assistant Chief Scott Graham, of the Montgomery County fire and rescue department, said a preliminary report from the scene indicated that after the fire, the contents of the vehicle were being taken out.

He said he was told that crews were “removing product” and that some of it was blood.

Further details were not available.

A spokesman for the region’s Red Cross blood program could not be reached immediately.
