Shots were fired early Sunday during an armed robbery in Loudoun County, authorities reported.

The sheriff’s office said it occurred about 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of North Cypress Road in the Sterling Park area.

Three men were walking there when a man came up to one of them and brandished a gun. The man who was confronted escaped into a nearby house, the sheriff’s office said.

At that point, police said, someone with a gun--it was not clear whether it was the same gunman-- approached another of the three men, and began taking jewelry from him.

A struggle broke out, and shots were fired, the sheriff’s office said. Nobody was injured. The robber or robbers drove off in a pickup truck.
