The husband of the woman fatally shot by a Culpeper, Va., police officer earlier this year was found dead Tuesday, the Virginia state police said.

They said the matter was under investigation but that it did not appear foul play was involved.

State police said Gary D. Cook, 62, was found in an apartment in Culpeper by a maintenance crew Tuesday morning. An autopsy is to be conducted.

Cook’s wife Patricia was killed Feb. 9 in a confrontation with a Culpeper police officer who was later charged in connection with her death.

He has said he acted in self defense.
