A 14-year-old Washington youth was fatally injured Saturday when a scooter he was operating crashed into a car, D.C. police said.

They said Kaywone Wills, of Southeast Washington was operating the scooter in the 2200 block of Hunter Place SE about 7:20 p.m. when it struck a speed hump.

The scooter went out of control and collided head on with a car that had stopped before the collision occurred, police said.

They said the youth was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries. A passenger on the scooter, also a juvenile, was released from a hospital after treatment for minor injuries, police said.
