Clarksburg center Andre Walker holds scholarship offer from DePaul, receiving interest from Maryland

It is easy to see why Clarksburg rising junior Andre Walker is attracting interest from several top college programs. He stands 6 feet 9 and has the potential to bulk up his 195-pound frame, having never followed a steady weightlifting program. He runs the floor well and has a nice touch.

Maryland Coach Mark Turgeon and Miami Coach Jim Larranaga have been in touch and Walker already holds a scholarship offer from DePaul. This past Saturday morning, Blue Demons assistant coach Brian Ellerbe sat alone in a corner of the gym watching while Walker played for the Mid-Atlantic Select in the D.C. Metro Certified Showcase.

Wafe Forest, Cincinnati, Washington and Virginia Commonwealth also have been in touch, Walker said.

“I know I’ve got a lot of work to do,” Walker said. “I really don’t worry about who I am right now. I just try to play hard every single game. Keep my head up, stay humble and stay in the gym.”

Walker plans to play in tournaments this summer with the Mid-Atlantic Select travel team. He plans to return to Clarksburg in the fall – he averaged 11.3 points last season -- but acknowledged several private school coaches are trying to recruit him to their schools as well.
