Flint Hill guard Alex Long picks Davidson

Flint Hill guard Alex Long, a rising senior, committed to Davidson College on Saturday. After visiting the school on an initial trip in the spring, she returned last week and decided it was where she wanted to be.

“Really, I think it was the best fit for me as a school and a basketball program,” she said. “I connected really well with the coaches and the players when I went down to visit.”

Long, who was second on her team last season with 12.15 points per game and helped guide them to a 26-7 record, had mutual interest from Bucknell and was also considering playing basketball at Princeton. But Davidson, a small Division I school in North Carolina, felt comfortable.

Long, a 5-foot-9 sure-handed ball-handler and three-pointer shooter, said she liked Davidson’s coach, Michele Savage, and her goals. “I really clicked with the program and fit in with the coaches,” she said.

James Wagner joined the Post in August 2010 and, prior to covering the Nationals, covered high school sports across the region.
