W.T. Woodson lineman Patrick Halloran bypassed Ivy League offers to commit to Air Force, continuing a family tradition.

His father is a retired Air Force colonel, both grandfathers were in the Air Force and other relatives also have served in that branch of the military.

There were football considerations to the choice, too. The first-team all-Patriot District defensive tackle said he likely will play on the offensive line in college. He was a second-team all-district choice at guard.

“Their style kind of fits how I play,” said the 6-foot-4, 270-pound Halloran, who also plays basketball at Woodson. “They’re an option team, really aggressive on the offensive line, and that suits how I play. I like to really get off the ball. There’s a little bit of zone blocking, but it’s a lot of full-speed-ahead.”

Halloran must report 12 days after high school graduation, leaving him little time to wallow in his high school accomplishments.

“It won’t be much of a summer,” he said. “One of my buddies has a lakehouse. We plan to make the most of it.”
