Carla Bruni is pregnant, father in law says

Expecting: Carla Bruni and French president Nicolas Sarkozy. After growing speculation that the first lady is expecting, Sarkozy’s father, Pal, told Germany’s Der Bild Tuesday that it’s true. “Neither wants to know the gender beforehand, but I’m certain it will be a girl, and beautiful like Carla,” he told the newspaper.

All the signs — according to the French press — point to a presidential baby on the way. Instead of her signature form-fitting clothing, Bruni has been wearing loose tops and shawls. And she skipped the red-carpet premiere of Woody Allen’s movie in Cannes for “private and professional reasons” although she has a small role in the film.

Bruni, 43, hasn’t denied the rumors but refused to comment, as has Sarkozy’s office. This will be their first child together; she has a son from a previous relationship, Sarkozy, 56, has three children from two previous marriages.
