The couple got engaged at Thanksgiving last year; Cate and her mother planned details of wedding together: A church ceremony for 150 guests, followed by a reception on the family estate. The theme was “rustic romantic,” and the first dance was “Wagon Wheel” — the first song the Princeton college sweethearts ever danced to.

This is the first marriage for both; the couple will live in Washington, where Upham is an oncology fellow at the National Cancer Institute, according to People. Edwards is leaving her legal career to run the Elizabeth Edwards Foundation, which will focus on mentoring and education. A judge postponed her father’s trial for breaking campaign finance laws until January because of the wedding.

• Married: Julianna Smoot, 44, and longtime boyfriend Lon Johnson, 40, Saturday in Michigan, according to their New York Times wedding announcement. The former White House social secretary — now raising money for President Obama’s reelection campaign — wed Johnson, a partner at an investment firm after a short engagement; first marriage for both.
