The bitter split of Republican lobbyists Ed and Edwina Rogers, who were finally divorced last fall, has taken another nasty turn. Edwina Rogers is now suing the couple’s longtime accountant, claiming he conspired with her ex to stick her with a huge tax bill shortly after they separated.

The complaint, filed last month in U.S. District Court in Alexandria and first reported by Courthouse News Service, alleges that Jon Deane, the CPA who handled the Rogers’ joint returns for a decade, secretly prepared a 2009 return for Ed as “married filing separately” giving him “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in deductions and credits. Edwina ended up with the liabilities, and the IRS filed a lien against her.

Rogers, now executive director of the Secular Coalition for America, is asking for up to $15 million in compensatory and punitive damages — and a jury trial. Deane did not return calls for comment.
