Update: Delonte West’s White House misunderstanding

It was a total misunderstanding that caused Delonte West to miss his trip to the White House, his rep now says. The NBA star told a reporter last weekend a weapons conviction was keeping him from traveling with the Dallas Mavericks to meet President Obama: “That’s what happens when you make bad decisions.” But the Secret Service later denied that the D.C. native was barred — in fact, he was cleared to attend. Manager Mark Fassett told us Wednesday that West wrongly assumed that since his rap sheet had kept him from some previous events the same would still apply at White House. A “miscommunication between all parties involved,” Fassett said. “He will be there next year after the Mavericks shock the world again.”
