As word comes that the Obama team has every intention of doubling down on its anti-Bain attacks, Mitt Romney’s campaign is going on the offense against crony capitalism with a new ad:

The ad packs a punch because it’s true (Obama’s brand of favoritism has been widely covered) and undercuts Obama’s claim that he occupies the high ground when it comes to investment while Romney is somehow debased by all that profit-seeking.

The message is also one that hits those critical working-class swing voters in the Rust Belt. Obama is helping his rich pals with boondoggles while doing nothing for the part of the economy that makes real things consumers want to buy. Obama’s brand of statism is, to borrow the left’s favorite word, “unfair.”
