Delaying Obamacare is a winner with the voters. “A new national survey of registered voters by Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies (Crossroads GPS) shows an overwhelming majority of 70 percent support a one-year delay of Obamacare implementation, given the widespread problems with rolling out the program over the last month.” That was before Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius testified.
Slashing defense is not a winning formula for getting our debt under control. “Over the past few years, the focus has been on resuscitating the U.S. economy, and rightly so. But trepidation about our economic well-being has fueled a mindless willingness to slash ‘elective’ spending such as defense, and retreat from global leadership. In January, we’ll do it again, slicing a $52 billion tranche out of a national defense budget that has already sustained more than $1 trillion in cuts. But what the American people won’t be told by the coalition of budget-cutters and neo-isolationists that favor starving defense is that these cuts don’t only harm national security, they will weaken the economy.”
He’s won two elections and obviously sees no reason to change. “Mr. Obama clearly believes that because his agenda is right and noble and his opponents are benighted and evil, he has license to say pretty much whatever he wants pretty much whenever he wants. After all, anything that advances his agenda while rebuffing the (choose your descriptor) nihilistic, anarchistic, heartless, ruthless, Taliban-like Republicans is allowable. Even encouraged. It’s the Chicago Way.”
The closing campaign ad for Gov. Chris Christie is quite something. He is going to win, in part because he formed an emotional bond with voters
It’s not just that we are allowing Bashar al-Assad to win. “[T]he U.S.-Russia deal does nothing to roll back growing safe havens in Syria for terrorists who pose long-term threats to the security of the United States and its partners in the Middle East. The failure of America and its allies to empower moderate rebels has enabled terrorist groups aligned with al-Qaida and other anti-Assad extremists to carve out territory in Syria that could be used to plot terror attacks across the world.” Read the whole thing.
The only win for the administration on the budget is because of the sequester, which it wants to dump. “The federal budget deficit for fiscal 2013 was $680 billion, the Treasury Department reported Wednesday. This is the first time that the deficit has fallen below $1 trillion during President Obama’s time in the White House.”
The Muslim Brotherhood lost, but secular reform is not winning. “But if the [Egyptian] army is abandoning the part of Mubarak’s legacy that dealt gently with the [Muslim Brotherhood], it is adhering to the other part of it: viewing moderate, secular, democratic, liberal Egyptians as the enemy. The generals are today no fonder of [nongovernmental organizations], human-rights activists, a free press, or an independent judiciary than Hosni Mubarak ever was. From their point of view this seems logical: Such people want a real democracy and are a danger to the Army’s narrow interests.”
