At least someone is worrying about national security. “Senior House lawmakers sounded the alarm over what they say is the U.S. military’s lack of preparedness for battle following a classified briefing Thursday on how deepening budget cuts are impacting troop readiness. Continuing cuts to the nation’s defense budget have left U.S. troops underprepared for battle, according to House Armed Services Committee Chair Howard ‘Buck’ McKeon (R., Calif.) and Readiness Subcommittee Chairman Rob Wittman (R., Va.), who briefed reporters following a classified briefing with top military brass.”

Warning against President Obama’s plan to lighten sanctions. “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday said world powers need to put more sanctions on Iran. Netanyahu criticized the deal floated by the United States and other members of the United Nations Security Council to loosen sanctions if Iran halts parts of its nuclear program.” Secretary of State John Kerry said to ignore him. Sigh.

Congress so far is withstanding administration pressure on sanctions. Wise advice from three who dealt closely with the Iranian threat while in office. “If  Iran is not yet ready to take the necessary steps to halt its march toward a  nuclear capability, then we should make use of the numerous measures at our  disposal to squeeze the regime harder, rather than rush to make concessions  ourselves.”

If you think national news has been tough on Obamacare, get a load of local media whacking the White House. “About face” seems to be the most popular headline.

Wondering how long before he gets a lawyer. “A day after he questioned President Obama’s decision to unwind a major tenet of the health-care law and said the nation’s capital might not go along, D.C. insurance commissioner William P. White was fired. White was called into a meeting Friday afternoon with one of Mayor Vincent C. Gray’s (D) top deputies and told that the mayor ‘wants to go in a different direction,’ White told The Post on Saturday.” Good grief.

There will be a lot of them wandering around Iowa soon. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) at a fundraiser for Iowa Gov. Terry  Branstad (R): “The next time you have a famous politician coming through Iowa breezing through  the towns talking about big government, let’s be a bit more skeptical.”

House Minority Leader  Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) must be wishing for the good old days, when we were going to pass Obamacare to find out what was in it. She insists, “What I was saying there is, we’re the House and the Senate. We  get a bill, we go to congress, we ping-pong it and then you see what the final  product is. However, I stand by what I said there. When people see what is in  the bill, they will like it, and they will, while there is a lot of hoop-de-doo and do about it, not surprising.” Hmm, not too convincing, is she?
