On one level, who can be surprised? The idea of “enough is enough” does not cross the Clintons’ minds, nor do they understand the notion of foregoing personal enrichment. On the other hand, the degree to which average people may find their conduct piggish may be underestimated. You do wonder how long her Democratic opponents will resist attacking them both for their excess and their disdain for ethical boundaries.
Coincidentally, Carly Fiorina kicked off her campaign, with a video showing her watching Hillary Clinton’s kickoff video (!) . Looking at the camera, she says, “Our founders never intended us to have a professional political class. They believed that citizens and leaders needed to step forward. . .If you believe that it’s time for citizens to stand up to the political class and say enough, then join us.” She might want to consider re-cutting the ad to stick Bill’s interview in there in lieu of Hillary. There could be no better evidence for her argument that we need to get rid of a corrupt political class.
