If he keeps this up, he might not last at Fox News. “Fox News Anchor Shepard Smith on Thursday defended CNN Reporter Jim Acosta, after he was shut down for asking President Donald Trump questions about Russia during a press conference. . . . Smith defended Acosta during a segment Thursday, calling him ‘an accomplished reporter, a guy I’ve never met, but a good reporter.’ ”

The border tax will not survive the Senate, even if it passes the House. “A conservative advocacy group founded by billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch is directly confronting a traditional ally — House Speaker Paul Ryan — as it mobilizes a new national effort to derail a proposed tax on U.S. companies’ domestic sales and imports. Americans For Prosperity, which advocates lower taxes and smaller government, plans to focus its efforts most heavily on about 15 states where it believes it can best rally opposition and put members of Congress on notice, the group’s leadership said Thursday.”

Will Trump’s or her stance endure? “U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley says the United States absolutely supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and anyone who thinks it doesn’t is in ‘error.’ . . . Haley’s comments were far more forceful in support of a two-state solution than President Donald Trump’s on Wednesday.”

The potential for criminal prosecution remains if he lied to the FBI. “Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn denied to FBI agents in an interview last month that he had discussed U.S. sanctions against Russia with that country’s ambassador to the United States before President Trump took office, contradicting the contents of intercepted communications collected by intelligence agencies, current and former U.S. officials said.”

If this view persists, Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson will have to prove his mettle. “President Donald Trump’s administration tested a tough-on-Russia stance in key meetings Thursday in Europe, as the president took a new tack of his own by saying the current U.S. political climate was poisoning the prospect of better ties with Moscow.”

As Trump’s tactic continues month after month, he underscores his authoritarian mindset.  “Chuck Todd: Donald Trump’s Delegitimization of Press ‘Un-American,’ ‘Not a Laughing Matter.’ ” Good for him.

We can only hope this view prevails. “U.S. President Donald Trump’s defense secretary on Thursday said he did not see possible military collaboration with Russia now, in a blow to Moscow’s hopes to mend ties with Washington after Trump’s election. The remarks are perhaps the strongest indication yet from the Trump administration that prospects for any significant cooperation between the U.S. and Russian militaries against Islamic State in Syria is unlikely anytime soon.”
