‘What happened to you, Asma?’

Annie Groer wrote a while back about Syrian first lady Asma al-Assad and her Marie Antonette ways amid the bloodshed in her country.

Now comes a gripping video — reportedly the idea of Huberta von Voss Wittig and Sheila Lyall Grant, who are married to the German and British United Nations ambassadors respectively — that intersperses scenes of al-Assad’s glamorous lifestyle with videos of dead children. It also shows the first lady giving a speech in which she preaches about how everyone should live in peace and dignity.

The video is not easy to watch, but let’s hope that Asma al-Assad will.
