This October, Thor is back. But not how you remember him.
Marvel Entertainment announced on Tuesday’s “The View” that the next iteration of the hammer wielding Norse god is a woman.

“This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita,” wrote series writer Jason Aaron in Marvel’s announcement. “This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.”
Marvel explained that the classic Thunder God would “no longer” be able to hold the legendary hammer Mjölnir and that a new female hero would emerge worthy.
For comic purists pointing to the Mjölnir’s inscription that names a male successor, Marvel editor Wil Moss said “Well it’s time to update that inscription.”
The next Thor will be the eighth Marvel title featuring a female protagonist, joining the tradition of Storm, Black Widow and other strong female characters.
