Chris Pontius signs new deal with D.C. United

Chris Pontius, D.C. United’s leading scorer and longest-serving player, has signed a long-term contract extension with the MLS club, United announced Friday morning. Terms were not disclosed. His previous base salary was $155,000.

“D.C. has been very good to me – the organization, the fans, and the community – and I’m committed to bringing this team back to where it needs to be,” he said in a prepared statement released before practice at RFK Stadium.

Pontius, 25, is in his fourth season and enjoying his best campaign after recovering from a broken leg last fall. He has scored 10 goals, besting his previous high of seven in 2011.

More to come after practice.....
