CONCACAF Gold Cup matchday at RFK Stadium: United States vs. Jamaica, Panama vs. El Salvador

Greetings from RFK Stadium, where, four hours before kickoff of the first CONCACAF quarterfinal today and seven hours ahead of El Salvador’s match, the parking lots were turning blue with Salvadoran supporters. On the freeway access road, I was boxed by cars with Salvadoran flags. Soon, the lots and stadium will be awash in a motif of colors and cultures — one of soccer’s unique gifts to the sporting world.

Last night’s results at sold-out Meadowlands:

Honduras defeated Costa Rica on PKs (4-2) after a 1-1 draw.

Mexico came from behind to edge Guatemala, 2-1.

Those sides will face one another in a semifinal Wednesday at Houston’s Reliant Stadium, which, as of yesterday, was close to a sellout. (The semifinals are a doubleheader.)

Post colleague Paul Tenorio will conduct a live blog on the Insider today. USA starters, subs and those not in uniform will be announced about an hour before kickoff.

USA lineup: Howard; Cherundolo, Goodson, Bocanegra, Lichaj; Jones, Bradley; Bedoya, Kljestan, Dempsey; Altidore.

USA subs: Hahnemann, Ream, Bornstein, Adu, Edu, Donovan, Agudelo.

USA scratches: Spector, Onyewu, Wondolowski, Rogers.
