Copa America: Messi and Argentina advance to quarterfinals with 3-0 victory over Costa Rica

Faced with first-round elimination from a Copa America it’s hosting, Argentina rose to the occasion Monday night in Cordoba with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Costa Rica. With Lionel Messi at his influential best, Sergio Aguero scored twice and Angel De Maria added a goal as La Albiceleste (five points) secured second place in Group A behind Colombia (seven). They’ll face Chile, Peru or Uruguay in a quarterfinal Saturday in Santa Fe.
