D.C. United acquires midfielder Austin da Luz from the New York Red Bulls

D.C. United has acquired second-year midfielder Austin da Luz from the Red Bulls, completing a trade between the clubs last week in which United sent an international roster slot to New York.

Da Luz, from Wake Forest, plays primarily on the left side but is also capable of filling a central role. He has one goal and one assist in seven league appearances this season (four starts).

“Austin is a very smart, technical player who is just coming into his own as a professional,” United General Manager Dave Kasper said in a written statement.

Steven Goff is The Post’s soccer writer. His beats include D.C. United, MLS and the international game, as well as local college basketball.
