Rookie midfielder Lance Rozeboom enhanced his prospects of securing a D.C. United roster spot Tuesday, scoring from 25 yards in the 76th minute of a 1-1 preseason draw with Real Salt Lake at Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix.

Jamison Olave scored in the 33rd minute for Real Salt Lake.

United (0-1-3 in preseason) was without 2011 MLS MVP Dwayne De Rosario (groin strain), midfielder Branko Boskovic (calf contusion), defender Brandon McDonald (quadriceps strain), forward Josh Wolff (foot injury), reserve midfielder Kurt Morsink (foot surgery) and newly acquired striker Hamdi Salihi (awaiting visa).

Chris Pontius, back from a broken leg suffered in September, made his 2012 debut with a 30-minute effort. Brazilian trialist Alfred Martins, a forward, entered in the 60th minute as well and had two quality scoring chances.

Second-year Joe Willis started in net, with trialist Andrew Dykstra finishing. Top choice Bill Hamid was rested.

Real Salt Lake defender Samir Bengelloun received a red card in the 27th minute for a challenge on Andy Najar, but given the exhibition nature, RSL was allowed to replace him.

Six minutes later, RSL went ahead when Ned Grabavoy’s free kick set up Olave’s header.

United equalized when Rozeboom, a supplemental draft pick from the University of New Mexico, scored from distance.

United will continue training in Arizona until Thursday, then practice in Washington until the middle of next week, when the club will travel to Charleston, S.C., for the final stage of training camp and the Carolina Challenge Cup. The preseason tournament also includes the Charleston Battery (host club), Chicago Fire and Columbus Crew.

United’s season opener is March 10 against Sporting Kansas City at RFK Stadium.
